The other day I was pondering about how to make life more awesome. Yes, I ponder about things like that. Good, essential questions define your actions. I had been staring in space for a considerable amount of time when I was suddenly hit by an ingenious idea.
What if I would host a monthly dinner party together with my boyfriend? Each dinner would have a crazy theme. Guests would rotate. Every guest would prepare a dish in theme and dress up. My enthusiasm went through the roof. I immediately texted my boyfriend and couldn’t think of anything else anymore for the next 2 hours. Needlessly to say, he didn’t think twice to embrace the concept, because he is awesome like that.
And so it was, that this past Friday night, his living room transformed into a circus of illusions. It was one of those nights you know you will remember for a long time. Our guests blew us away with their creativity, wacky costumes and surprising taste experiences. This night, nothing was what it seemed at first sight.
I prepared strawberries dipped in chocolate and popping sugar, which exploded in your mouth when eating. They were hung from the ceiling to make them look like they floated in mid-air. We used dry ice to serve one of our dishes in an illusionary, smoking style. There were tiny peppers that numbed your tounge, trapeze cake, ‘sushi’ with a quite surprising filling, margaritas in all the colours of the rainbow (we started at red and worked our way to purple) and edible nametags. The evening was filled with laughter, good food, delicious drinks, joking around, crazy circus music and great, imaginative people.
I barely took any pictures. I guess I was busier enjoying the dinner than capturing it. Thankfully some other people did capture a few moments, so below are a few snap shots to show you a glimpse of the night.
You are in control of your own life. You alone are responsible to make the most out of it. Perhaps you don’t have the space to throw dinner parties. I know I don’t, thankfully my boyfriend does. I wouldn’t have pulled a night like this one off without him. But if you want to add some fun to your life it doesn’t have to be a dinner party. It can be anything.
Organise a belle époque picnic! Get some friends together to perform a flash mob. Use someone’s birthday as an excuse to organise a surprise Holi event. Watch sunrises on your rooftop. Dance walk in public.
Your life can be as awesome as you choose it to be. The question is: what do you want it to look like?
