I sneaked into my boyfriend’s house when he was away, to leave a surprise message to let him know I love being with him (watch the video). The marker I used is a special window marker, which is easy to remove with a splash of water. ‘Zullen we’ is Dutch for something between ‘shall we’, ‘do you want to’ and ‘let’s’. It is like a suggestion in question form. The English ‘shall we’ doesn’t quite cover the feeling. That being said, here is a translation of the text I wrote:

Shall we play together? And go on adventure in far-away countries? Shall we watch stars on clear summer nights and bike around on the tandem? Shall we laugh until our stomach hurts? And make bonfires on the beach? Shall we get a pet elephant shrew and walk him in the park? Shall we listen to good music and make pretty things together?

Look at your everyday environment with an eye for opportunity. Windows are canvasses for poetry. Your couch is a fort in disguise. You will find that life becomes a lot more interesting, perhaps even more beautiful.

Have you ever surprised someone you love in an unexpected way? I would love to hear your stories.

I love words that can’t be translated between languages. And oh my goodness, this is the sweetest thing! He’s so lucky to have you; ANYONE who has you in their life is lucky!
