Here is how to spice up your outdoor space with some creative peanut jazz. Make yourself a warm drink while gathering your materials. Play some happy chill music. Get comfortable. Paint some peanuts in the warmth of your cozy home. Then feed your colourful craft to the birds.

(Note that birds only eat the peanut itself, not the peanut shell around it. Therefore painting the shells isn’t harmful to them.)

What a fun idea! (I did wonder if the paint could hurt the birds — glad to know it doesn’t.)

(to be sure you could also use a more natural dye or something. But I think it is comparable to us not eating a plastic wrap around our food)

This is a genious idea and the birds say thank you. Isnt it better to use natural colirs? Im afraid the paint can be toxic for the animals…

I was thinking that if I would ever attempt this project again, I could probably also use food colouring instead, just to be sure. That being said, I do honestly think that it shouldn’t be a problem. Only the inside part is eaten, and the in- and outside aren’t as intertwined as a typical fruit or something.

What a happy idea!! It makes it fun, even though the birds won’t see the difference, I’ll see it! Haha!

Hi! Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog! :)

This is so cute, certainly brightens up a dreary winter. The safety of the paint also immediately popped into my head, ha. You are probably right that they don’t eat the shell but I was thinking maybe you could also just use food dye? Like the ones you put in cupcake frosting.

    Anyway you’ve got such a cute blog :D x

No problem! Also.. It has been a few days and the birds haven’t eaten yet. The last time I hung some (normal) peanuts it also took a while.. So we’ll see if they trust the weird colours ;)

This is very cute. I would hang this in my own home and open one for a snack once in a while! :)

That’s actually a good idea. You could do a couple of fun variations with that!

Marielle! It’s been too long since I’ve stopped by. I went through something of a hideout last fall, but it’s so refreshing to see you working creatively. Inspiring is what you are!!

Love it! Trying to color some peanuts . Did you just use a paint brush to paint them? How would i use food coloring?

I used a paint brush indeed. I would just use food colouring like it were paint (if needed, add a little bit of water) and paint the peanuts with it. But you could experiment with it, it was also my first time to try such a thing :)
