In my last post about my birds painting I mentioned that I was working on a hipster monkey. Although that was the initial idea it turned out to be more of a monkey-man than a hipster monkey really. I had all these ideas of giving him a t-shirt with some slogan like ‘monkey is the new donkey’, ‘I liked bananas before it was cool’ and I even considered ‘RAH RAH BANANAHAH’.

In the end I felt like all these texts would distract too much though and I left my monkey quite simple.

I think I spent at least 3 hours just on the little space within his glasses. Sometimes it is quite a struggle to get something exactly right, especially when it comes to eyes.

This painting is my favourite one so far. I am not quite sure why.

(Also, while I am writing this post I just realized that the portrait looks an awful lot like the current picture of myself in my sidebar. See for yourself! haha)

Hope you are having a great week!

Your monkey is excellent. It is funny how similar the painting is to your sidebar photo!
