I copied a dress I recently bought by tracing it on pattern paper. Then I went to the market where I bought a lovely heart print fabric and made myself a dress. I even sewed my first pocket.

You should never underestimate the importance of pockets. You see, I don’t like dresses or skirts without pockets, because then there is no place to leave all the junk I normally carry around. Being able to sew a pocket might seem like a small step for mankind, but is a big step for this girl.

Oh my gooooodnessssss! This is one of the cutest dresses I’ve ever seen! I am super impressed you made it to! I have a few dress patterns I’ve been meaning to tackle but maybe I’ll just trace that I already have like you did! Xo Lori

Wow! That’s absolutely gorgeous :) How exactly do you go about copying a pattern? Sorry if that’s a really obvious answer! + yes, pockets are such wonderful inventions! ♥

Well, I layed down my dress on pattern paper and tried to draw lines as accurate as possible where the seams were. For the skirt and back part that was doable, the front part was a bit tricky bacause it isn’t a ‘flat’ shape. So I also took a bit of a leap there. I tried to get it as good as possible, yet the first time the top didn’t fit that well; I made a few alterations and a second shape. That one fitted very well. So it takes a bit of fumbling around.. and this pattern wasn’t very complicated.. So it is possible :) Hope that helps!

Your dress is beautiful! I am still new to sewing and have not ventured into the land of dresses or pockets, but it will come :-)

Oh my gosh that’s so cute! It reminds me of the dress Zooey Deschanel wore when she hosted SNL last week! =] Except hers was red.

You made that! So impressive. I can sew, but I’m not nearly to that level. Gonna have to start learning so I can make something like this!

I’m intimidated to even bring my sewing machine out of the case…so this girl gets it and thinks your pocket sewing is pretty rad :). Thanks for stopping by my blog!
