Remember coloring books? Remember drawing between those lines with your tongue out of your mouth and your pencils scattered over the table? And using ‘special techniques’ like drawing in circular movements or making the outlines thicker? Well, I certainly do.

When I asked my boyfriend if he had anything around the house that he wanted painted, he showed me this wooden carved out dry vase. So I gave it a white coating with spray paint and then started coloring the whole thing, figure by figure. It felt like one big 3D coloring picture.

The vase has cracks all over and is not suitable to put water in. So when I finished, I said to him ‘Ok, there is no way that you are ever going to use this vase’. To which he thoughtfully replied; ‘I can put dried flowers in it’. ‘Yes, that was exactly my point’.

But that doesn’t matter, because to me it wasn’t so much about the vase as it was the activity. I find it relaxing to spend a Sunday afternoon painting with some music on. Also, I think I should start doing coloring books again.

Haha thanks. I did do it in a couple of times. One day I did the spray paint, one day a few figures, last Sunday I finished. That helps ;)

This turned out beautifully! I usually have such a hard time painting over anything like this because I love things in their natural/original state (like wood with its pretty grains and such). But I have to say this is probably the first time that I like the after better than the before. You did such a great job! It really looks wonderful!

Yes me too. It helped that it was really old and worn so I didn’t feel too bad about it. But usually I also really like objects in their more ‘natural state’.
