I found a special feather the other day. Isn’t it pretty?

I looked at it and thought about how amazing it is. The structure, how it is light enough to make a bird fly high in the air and how water drops can easily roll off.

Then I started thinking about how amazing nature in general is. Plants grow without your interference. They do it perfectly. They take sunlight and water and become bigger and bigger. They have all these chemical processes like photosynthesis happening in every tiny cell, making everything work smoothly. And if they die, they have seeds or other ways of making sure that a part of them will live on in the form of other plants.

And me. I have a body. Take my eyes. How awesome are organs that work as some kind of supernatural super sensor that makes me sense stuff around me, to make sure I notice objects around me before bumping into them or falling down. But my eyes also allow me to become happy simply by for example seeing pleasant color and form combinations. My eyes have eyelashes. And my eyelashes together with my eyelids have a natural way of instantly protecting this super sensing part of me if anything comes close. Or what about my heart, that pumps blood and oxygen to every part of my body without me ever asking or checking if it is doing the task it is supposed to do. Whenever I’m healthy, which is let’s face it most of the time, I don’t often think about it. But it is pretty awesome that it all works, and how it all works.

There is you too. And your body basically works the same as mine. And we can squeeze air through our throat to make sounds that make us able to communicate about it and share thoughts that before were only in our head.

And then this big ball that sticks me and you to it with gravity, that is actually not a big ball but a very tiny one in a huuuuge space of nothing with a few other balls of mass of some kind. This space is bigger than you and I could ever imagine. The balls all kind of work together and turn round. They just do what they do making me able to do what I do.

We as humans think we are pretty smart, because we figured out a fraction of how some of this stuff works. I think it is pretty smart that it works in the first place, whether we understand it or not. We observe nature, put one and one together and got some nice discoveries and inventions out of it, like how to use energy and make instant light and stuff like that. But those are just a few coincident understandings of the world around us and their implications. That stuff was always there, we only just recently got to discover it. Now imagine how many more things there are that we haven’t understood and discovered. If light was a pretty cool invention, what other secret possibilities are there for us to still discover? I imagine these possibilities are endless.

Understanding more of how things work doesn’t make me think the world is less wonderful or magical. If anything, it makes me more in awe of its greatness.

Seriously, look around you. Because everything is just so perfect. And synchronized. And complex. And beautiful.

Science is pretty cool. It help us understand the things around us. But first of all, the things around us, just as they are, just as they work without any help, they are the real cool. And as I like to be believe, the Guy creating that stuff was the Guy to invent cool, before the word cool even existed.

Well put. We have to stop and enjoy the world as it is, and admire the beauty around us.

the universe and all that’s in it is SO vast and complex, it’s interesting that you mention our eyes, because it’s so true, the facts about our eyes are mind blowing!!! I think we have a grand Designer!!!
