Let me start by saying that I have an inexplicable love for any food that resembles anything other than food: elephant hamburgers, pink fondant roses on cupcakes, butterfly pancakes, you name it. So it won’t surprise you that ever since I was a little kid I have wanted to make a gingerbread house. Well, of course also just have and eat one. But also just to make one. I remember how I would stand in front of the glass window in some public place admiring the decorated candy wonderland. I made this one in celebration of my birthday a few years back (and no today is not my birthday). Simply looking at the picture makes me want to bake another one.

Do you have any childhood dreams that you made happen years later?

That is a pretty awesome ginger bread house! I saw them being made in a challenge on master chef last year and they looked super hard.

Well, it did take me a long time. I think the tasks were spread over 2 days. But totally worth it!

Building a Gingerbread house was something I also wanted to do. A few years ago I got a kit as a Secret Santa gift and practically bounced off the walls when I opened it–I was so excited! I built it the next day and couldn’t bear to eat it or throw it away so it’s still sitting out in our living room. Ewww. What’s nuts is that it hasn’t started molding or anything. Makes you wonder huh?

Haha I know the feeling. Perhaps there is too much sugar in it? Or it is just stuffed with chemicals. I don’t know :p either way, I guess it is a good thing that it’s still there right? at least in some ways :)

A Lego pirate ship. Didn’t get one until I was 27 and it was still the best present ever!

Amazing! Mine was a Mr Frosty slushy maker thing…got one a couple of years ago at the age of 26. The 20 year delay made it totally awesome!

Haha that sounds like so much fun. I also used to want an ‘ice cream machine’.

Very nice house. And I can’t say I’ve ever experienced the goodness of an elephant hamburger! When I was little I was enchanted by the idea of anonymous valentines, so as an adult for years I sent one to my friend’s little girl. But I ended up eventually telling her it was me, because she outright phoned me to ask if I had sent them. At first I lied and said I had no idea what she was talking about, but the next year I ‘fessed up because I didn’t want to freak her out!

Haha a nice thing to do. I remember someone telling that her mom used to send her valentine cards. Perhaps she will do it for someone else one day as well :)

That sounds like such a sweet tradition. Maybe I should start a new tradition like that as well!
